“Salesforce MCP” usually means Salesforce’s hosted MCP servers. They let Claude read and update your Salesforce records, with the same permissions as the person who signs in. They’ve been generally available since April 2026 on Enterprise Edition and above, and a Salesforce admin turns them on. What they don’t do is send email or run follow-ups. Their tools work on records. For outreach from Claude, add a second connector from a tool that sends email, such as Mixmax, which sends from your Gmail and logs the activity back to Salesforce.
Here’s how Salesforce’s MCP works with Claude, what it can and can’t do, and how to add follow-ups to the same chat.
What an MCP server is
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant like Claude use another app’s data and actions. The app runs an MCP server, and you add it to Claude as a connector. After that, Claude can look things up in that app, or take actions in it, when you ask.
Salesforce’s MCP options
Salesforce has a few, and they’re easy to mix up:
- Hosted MCP servers. Salesforce runs them, and your admin switches on the ones you want. The standard pair is
sobject-reads, which can only read records, andsobject-all, which can also create, update and delete them. Admins can add custom tools built on Flows or Apex. (Salesforce hosted MCP servers FAQ) - The Headless 360 MCP server. A newer server, listed in Claude’s connector directory. Salesforce labels it a beta. (Claude connector directory: Salesforce Headless 360)
- Salesforce in Claude. A plugin with ready-made sales skills, also in beta, for orgs Salesforce approves. (Claude blog: Salesforce in Claude)
The old developer server, @salesforce/mcp, reached end of life on November 2, 2026. (salesforcecli/mcp)
Hosted MCP servers need Enterprise Edition or above. Developer Edition orgs work too, for testing. (Confirming availability)
How to connect Claude to Salesforce
An admin does the Salesforce half once. Then each person connects in Claude.
In Salesforce (admin):
- Go to Setup → API Catalog → MCP Servers and turn on the server you want. They’re off by default.
- Create an External Client App. Older connected apps aren’t supported.
- Give it the
mcp_apiandrefresh_tokenOAuth scopes, turn on PKCE, and usehttps://claude.ai/api/mcp/auth_callbackas the callback URL.
(Salesforce hosted MCP quick start)
In Claude:
- Open your connector settings and click Add custom connector.
- Paste the server URL your admin gives you.
- Enter the app’s consumer key and secret, then sign in to Salesforce.

On Claude Team and Enterprise plans, an owner adds the connector for the organization first.
What Claude can and can’t do with Salesforce’s MCP
What it can do:
- Answer questions about your records. “Which opportunities over $50K close this quarter?” or “What changed on the Acme account this week?”
- Create and update records, if your admin turned on a server that allows writes.
- Run your own Flows or Apex actions, if your admin added them as tools.
Claude gets exactly the access of the person who signed in: the same objects, fields and sharing rules. Changes show under that person’s name in the audit trail. Each tool call counts against your org’s daily API limit. (Hosted MCP servers FAQ · Known limitations)
What it doesn’t do: its tools work on Salesforce records, not your inbox. Through it, Claude can’t:
- Send an email from your Gmail.
- Run a follow-up sequence, or stop one when someone replies.
- Tell you who opened or clicked your last email.
So Claude can tell you which contacts need a follow-up, but it can’t send one through Salesforce’s MCP server.
Running sequences and follow-ups from Claude with Mixmax
Mixmax is a lightweight outreach tool inside Gmail that syncs with Salesforce, and it has its own MCP server. Connect it next to Salesforce’s, and Claude can do the Gmail side of the work:
- Build and edit sequences. Describe the follow-ups you want, and Claude drafts the steps in Mixmax for you to review.
- Add people to a sequence. Pull a list of contacts with Salesforce’s MCP server, then ask Claude to add them to a Mixmax sequence. Each follow-up sends from your Gmail and stops for anyone who replies.
- Send tracked email as you. Claude can send or schedule an email through Mixmax, with opens and clicks tracked.
- See who opened, clicked or replied. Ask “who opened my pricing email this week?” and get an answer from real activity.
- Read meeting prep and summaries, plus call transcripts if your team uses the Mixmax dialer.
- Manage tasks and reminders, like “remind me to call Ana on Thursday”.
Emails and replies sent through Mixmax log to Salesforce as activity on the matching record, so the next time Claude reads that record through Salesforce’s MCP server, the outreach is there.
You decide what Claude is allowed to do. In your Mixmax MCP settings, reading your data is always on, and creating sequences, sending email, and managing tasks and reminders are separate switches.
How to connect the Mixmax MCP server to Claude
- In Claude, open your connector settings and click Add custom connector.
- Paste
https://mcp.mixmax.com/mcpas the server URL. - Sign in to Mixmax and approve access.
There’s no code and no API key. The Mixmax MCP server works on paid plans and during the 14-day free trial. Full steps for Claude and ChatGPT are in the Mixmax MCP server guide.
An example: from a Salesforce list to follow-ups in one chat
With both connectors on, one request can cover both systems:
“Find the contacts on opportunities in Discovery that haven’t had an email in 30 days. Add them to my ‘Checking back in’ sequence in Mixmax, starting next Tuesday.”
Claude asks Salesforce’s MCP server for the list, then uses Mixmax’s to add those people to the sequence. You review before anything sends. The emails go out from your Gmail as replies in the same thread, and each one logs to Salesforce.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Salesforce MCP server?
It’s Salesforce’s way to let AI assistants like Claude work with your Salesforce data. Salesforce hosts the servers, and your admin turns on the ones you want. Claude then reads and updates records with the permissions of the person signed in.
Is the Salesforce MCP server free?
Hosted MCP servers need Enterprise Edition or above, and each call counts against your org’s daily API limit. Ask your Salesforce account team about pricing for your org.
Can Claude update Salesforce records?
Yes, if your admin turns on a server that allows writes, such as sobject-all. With the read-only server, Claude can only look things up.
Can Claude send emails from Salesforce?
Not through Salesforce’s MCP server, which works with records. To send email and follow-ups from Claude, connect an outreach tool’s MCP server, such as Mixmax’s, which sends from your Gmail and logs the activity to Salesforce.
Does the Mixmax MCP server read my Salesforce data?
No. It exposes Mixmax’s own data: sequences, emails sent through Mixmax and their opens and replies, meetings, tasks, reminders and call transcripts. It works alongside Salesforce’s MCP server, which reads your Salesforce records.
Does this work with ChatGPT too?
The Mixmax MCP server works with ChatGPT and other AI tools that support MCP connectors. Steps are in the Mixmax MCP server guide.
The next step
Ask your Salesforce admin to turn on Salesforce’s MCP server, then connect Mixmax to Claude. If you’re not a Mixmax customer yet, start a 14-day free trial with your Google account and connect Salesforce from settings.
