Mixmax vs. Mailbutler:  follow-up suggestions, or follow-ups that send

Mailbutler adds tracking, signatures, templates and AI help to your inbox, and points out emails that may need a follow-up. Mixmax is a lightweight outreach tool inside Gmail: write your follow-ups once, and if they don't reply, Mixmax sends them and stops the moment they do.

Mailbutler
  • Smart Follow-ups suggest which emails need a follow-up and draft one with AI. You still send it.
  • Smart Follow-ups start on the Smart plan, at $11 per user a month billed yearly.
  • Syncing tracking data to HubSpot or Salesforce needs the Business plan, at $24 per user a month billed yearly.
  • No free plan on its pricing page: a 14-day trial, then a paid plan.
Mixmax
  • Write your follow-ups once. If they don't reply, Mixmax sends them from your Gmail, in the same thread.
  • Follow-ups stop the moment they reply.
  • Add follow-ups to one email you're writing, or to a list from a CSV, Salesforce or HubSpot.
  • "Remind me if no reply" brings the email back to the top of your inbox when someone goes quiet.
  • Booking links so people can pick a time without the back-and-forth.
  • Free plan: 50 sequence recipients and 20 tracked emails a month.

What can you do with Mixmax vs. Mailbutler?

  • Does Mailbutler send follow-ups automatically?

Not by itself, from what Mailbutler documents. Its Smart Follow-ups look at your tracked emails, flag the ones that haven't had a reply, sort them by urgency, and let AI draft a follow-up for you to send (Mailbutler's help article "How do I use Smart Follow-ups?").

Mixmax sends the follow-up for you: write it once, and if they don't reply, it goes out from your Gmail in the same thread. If they reply, it stops.

  • What does Mailbutler do well?

Mailbutler is a broad inbox toolkit. It has open and click tracking with real-time alerts, professional email signatures you can share with a team, templates, mail merge from contacts, a CRM or a CSV, notes and tasks on emails, and an AI assistant that writes and summarizes emails. It also works in Apple Mail as well as Gmail.

Its entry plan is cheap, at $4 per user a month billed yearly.

  • Is Mixmax more expensive than Mailbutler?

It depends on the plan. Mailbutler starts at $4 per user a month billed yearly, and its Smart plan, where Smart Follow-ups start, is $11. Its Business plan, which syncs tracking data to HubSpot and Salesforce, is $24. Mixmax starts at $29 per user a month billed yearly ($34 monthly).

Mixmax also has a free plan with follow-ups that send themselves, and Mailbutler's pricing page lists a 14-day trial instead.

  • Can Mixmax tell me who hasn't replied?

Yes. Mixmax shows who opened your emails and clicked your links, and "Remind me if no reply" brings an email back to the top of your inbox when someone goes quiet. Or skip the reminder and add a follow-up that Mixmax sends for you.

  • Should I choose Mailbutler or Mixmax?

Choose Mailbutler if you want an all-round inbox helper, with signatures, tracking, notes and AI writing, and you're happy to send each follow-up yourself.

Choose Mixmax if you want follow-ups that actually go out when people go quiet, from your Gmail, stopped when they reply. Our guides on how to follow up after no response and on automated email follow-up tools cover both approaches.
